College and Career Ready Performance Index is a grading system for Georgia schools. The Georgia Department of Education gives each school a grade based on progress, graduation rate, school climate, content mastery, and much more.

Starr’s Mill basketball is preparing for another season!  The girls look to be set for another successful season under head coach Emily Sweeney. The boys on the other hand have had to work many things out, including a new coach in Jason Reeves and a fresh roster.  The girls begin their season by hosting Ola at 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 9. The boys start their season by traveling to Sandy Creek to face off against the Sandy Creek Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 12.

In the fifth episode of “From the Panther Pit” for the 2019-2020 school year, Sports Editor Ben Barkley and Staff Writer Daniel Stackhouse sit down as fall sports come to a close. The two discuss cheer, cross country, volleyball, softball, and football. Included are interviews with cheer coach Heather McNally, volleyball coach Jason Flowers, softball coach Mark Williamson, senior quarterback Hunter Lawson, and senior running back Kalen Sims.

Annually, in the third week in September, the American Library Association observes banned books week to encourage students to explore what they are reading. To get students to think about their freedom to read, media specialist Rick Wright has created a challenge allowing students to explore various banned and censored books.

With the new school year, Starr’s Mill faced countless changes to their policies, including a new bookbag-free rule. This rule prohibits students from bringing their bookbags around to their first through sixth periods.

ESOL teacher Valerie Hughey and senior Ashley Fukayama won the exemplary ESOL teacher and student award earlier this month. They were chosen as one of ten winners throughout the state of Georgia and are the only winners from Fayette County.

Welcome back to “Real Talk.” In this week’s episode, Staff Writers Sophia Bender and James Hindy sit down to discuss Marvel Studios’ newest movie “Avengers: Endgame.” Together, the pair talk about what the movie means for the franchise and where the MCU could go from here. It may be the end of an era, but it’s most definitely the start of an age. There is a spoiler, however, as Sophia and James do real major plot points for "Endgame" during their discussion and that’s a real problem.

While agreed that astrology is fun to look at, the actual legitimacy of astrology is debatable. Regardless, included is a fun little crash course about the traits commonly associated with every sign. However, astrology is sometimes overused to avoid responsibility for having character flaws, and that’s real problem.
