I'm 39 years old, 10kg over ideal BMI weight, and am a beginner runner. I am running at a slower pace (7-8 mins per km), but my heart rate gets up to a max HR of 180 after maybe 5 minutes then stays there until I walk. I have a Garmin smartwatch so know this is in the 'maximum' HR area. My question is: Is that ok? Is it only because we have monitors these days that we worry about generic metrics? I also know the smartwatch algorithms are based on men, so do I need to worry - or not run at all? I feel well when I run and after, but have a family history of heart disease so don't want to do any damage. Appreciate you!
