Welcome to episode 75 I had a hard time staying on task with this show after learning of Nicky Hayden's tragic bicycle accident in Italy. Thousands of fans and peers are showing support and sending well wishes to the Kentucky Kid, who at this time is recovering in an Italian hospital. The whole tone of the show was overshadowed by this tragedy, but i hope that through my non-sensical ramblings that I have kept you entertained and maybe even made you smile for a second. The news really took the wind out of my sails, and I have postponed some of the material for this episode until a later date. Fingers crossed for Nicky Hayden and his family. Hey everyone, it's episode 62! We have to start out talking about the rain. When I was a kid (and even in to adulthood) I have been told time and time again that California is going to separate from the mainland and become an island. Or worse yet- sink. There is a crappy country song about it, and there's even a Tool song about it. It was supposed to happen because of "the big one". An earthquake along the San Andreas fault line, so powerful, that it rips Cali off the map. Well, turns out Cali might slip off the map after all, but not because of some mega-quake. Instead, the long-running drought might have more to do with the land leaving the hillsides and running out to the sea one grain at a time. Many places across the state are suffering land slides. In the Santa Cruz mountains roads are literally falling down cliff sides, and in the Central Coast areas there is flooding similar to what the midwestern plains suffer on a regular basis. There were thrills, there were spills, and there were grilles! Racers camped out overnight for the two day event which kicked off the racing action for the team at IV League. There was no shortage of bikes, vendors, and bar-banging action. I also discuss common knowledge about the AMA American Flat Track series and the factory racing team that Harley-Davidson has assembled to take on the Indian Motorcycle Company's Wrecking Crew. With Harley-Davidson in the lime light, there is news about H-D execs meeting with President Trump, as well as news that H-D is planning on driving sales over the next 5 years with 50 new bikes. I say 50 "new" bikes. Then, I blab and ramble with company. Is that a surprise? This week's creative look inside the motorcycle industry is brought to you by EBR, who has once again began the shuttering process. EBR will be winding down operations and their East Troy facility and you can find out more via the internet. I don't know what the answer to these closing marques is, but I know that if we don't act as a community, soon motorbikes will be like horses on the USA... an extant but outdated form of transportation that has outlived it's usefulness to mankind. I also throw out the idea that you just may be a better rider than a racer! The caveat - I said a better RIDER than a racer, not a better RACER... Part of the reason for racers being better than you is because of their environment and the current technology on race bikes. Part of the reason for you being a better rider is your ability to take the technology from race-derived development and using it in an environment that many racers wouldn't dare to!
