  • artist Camilla Engström on creative process, habits, and routines, moves, and more ((part 1))

    05/02/2021 Duração: 01h55min

This week I spoke with visual artist Camilla Engström. Our conversation flew by and we ended up talking for nearly 3 hours, so I decided to break this up into two parts. In this first half, you’ll hear about her her upbringing in a small town in Sweden, her parents meeting in China, her move to Shanghai, her unplanned move to NYC to study fashion, and how she ended up eventually becoming a painter. We move up to the present and talk about how moving to LA impacted her personally and professionally, and what her life is like now including her habits, routines, and creative process. She talks about her meditation and journaling practices, art influences, and her thoughts on spirituality, including what happens when we die. Show notes:- Connect with Camilla on The Web | Instagram- Apply for Creative Underdogs (semester 2 begins March 1st!)- Join me for my new weekly live show on Stereo every Thursday at noon PT!- The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle (Book)- Georgia O'Keeffe (Artist)- Hilma af Klint (Artist) If you

  • 2020 music with James McCrae

    17/12/2020 Duração: 01h56min

As our last episode of the year, I thought it would be fun to do a year in review of the music of 2020 with my friend James McCrae. Neither of us are music experts, but we do have similar taste in music and got a lot of comfort out of music this year. It’s been such a strange year and so hard for artists to not be able to tour, and as consumers we miss live shows so much. In this episode we each came with 3 albums we loved this year and talked about songs we listened to on repeat. We also talked about how art is always best when you "go with yourself," as Fiona Apple said in her 1997 speech. And in the vein of being yourself, we end the show with a conversation with Dr. Sophia Kogan about body image, vanity, how our hair defines us, and standards of beauty.Show notes:- LET IT OUT Holiday Workshops!- Connect with James on The Web | Instagram- James' Book- Fiona Apple- Charli XCX- Pitchfork's Albums of The Year Podcast- Waxahatchee- Lilacs by Waxahatchee (Music video feat.
