Acts 2 was not the beginning of a new holiday, but the continuation of Shavuot—an appointed feast of the LORD already established in Scripture. “Pentecost” is simply the Greek name for Shavuot. The disciples were gathered in Jerusalem because they were faithfully observing God’s feast when the Holy Spirit was poured out.
