Dr. Katherine Theisen joins the AUA Inside Tract Podcast this week to discuss her recent AUANews article (co-authored with Dr. Sean Elliott) called, “Patient Reported Urinary Tract Infections Affect Quality of Life after Spinal Cord Injury.” Dr. Theisen is a urologist at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. We are delighted to share this week’s update, which includes information on our conversations with legislators to discuss health disparities, the pandemic, and a snapshot of fast facts about the 117th Congress.

The Male Infertility guideline was released in 2020 and was a joint partnership with the AUA and ASRM. We are excited to release this new podcast that sheds light on the guideline process that was used to create the Male Infertility guideline. Dr. Peter Schlegel, the Chair of the guideline, discusses how the guideline was created starting with the creation of key questions surrounding male infertility and how this was used by the panel to focus on a specific patient population, interventions, comparators and outcomes of interest. Part II of this guideline to follow with the Vice-Chair, Dr. Mark Sigman.

What happens when there is a 50/50 split in the U.S. Senate? It has been 20 years since the Senate has been evenly split between the Republicans and Democrats and many of you may have questions on leadership structure and Senate procedure. The AUA and our external lobbying firm, District Policy Group have developed an FAQ to answer these questions. The District Policy Group’s staff – including former Congressman, Dr. Phil Gingrey – have decades of legislative and policy experience.

The Urology Care Foundation has launched a series of Humanitarian Endowments to support urologic health care missions in the U.S. and around the world. This podcast series spotlights some extraordinary humanitarians in urology who volunteer to serve patients in underserved areas across the globe. Dr. Kurt McCammon joins us for today's interview. Dr. McCammon is a reconstructive urologist in Virginia. He has been doing humanitarian work in urology for the past 15 years.

Dr. El-Arabi is the South Central Section Representative on the AUA's Residents and Fellows Committee.
