I spoke with Andrew Stein, the Vice President of Business Development for Venio Systems, an e-discovery software provider. I spoke with Scott Petry, the co-founder and CEO of Authentic8, the creator of Silo, a secure virtual browser. Prior to Authentic8, Scott founded Postini, an email server security company, acquired by Google in 2007. I spoke with Mary Juetten, the founder and CEO of Traklight, a software platform to identify, manage, and protect intellectual property assets, acknowledge business risks, and provide a roadmap for small and medium-sized business operations. She is also the co-founder of Evolve Law, a community to advance the adoption of technology in the legal field. We discussed the genesis of Traklight, its free business risk assessment, and how the company’s technology supports legal professionals. I spoke with Jeremiah Kelman, the co-founder and president of Everchron, a collaborative litigation management software platform. I spoke with Owen Byrd, the Chief Evangelist and General Counsel of Lex Machina, a company that provides legal analytics to enable lawyers to make data-driven decisions. We discussed how lawyers are currently using analytics to make decisions, Lex Machina’s evolution since its acquisition by LexisNexis, the connection between IP and securities analytics, the company’s new Comparator apps, and where the legal industry is headed, among other topics.

I spoke with Rick Clark, the Senior Sales Director at TCDI, an e-discovery software and services company that supports law firms and corporate law departments. The company has also launched CVFox, a software as a service platform for small and mid-sized law firms. We discussed the genesis of CVFox, its focus on the small and mid-sized law firm market, and what tools like CVFox indicate about the evolution of the legal industry, among other topics.

I spoke with Brad Jenkins, the co-founder and CEO of CloudNine Discovery, a cloud-based e-discovery software provider. I spoke with Brett Burney, the principal of Burney Consultants, a legal technology consulting firm focused on e-discovery, with a specialty in supporting lawyers who use Apple products. Burney is also the creator of Apps in Law, a blog that offers video reviews of apps for lawyers. We discussed the genesis of Burney Consultants and Apps in Law, the aspects of legal technology that lawyers find most challenging, the MacTrack Legal conference, where Burney is speaking about Microsoft One Note, and the trajectory of technology in the legal profession.

I spoke with Ian Campbell, the CEO of iCONECT, a multi-party document review platform. We discussed how iCONECT is evolving, the ways that users are leveraging its technology beyond eDiscovery and legal matters, where that usage is most popular, and how broader usage of legal tech is impacting the future of the profession.

I spoke with Karen Cummings, the Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, and Denise Meyer, the Director of Marketing Communications, respectively, for Omtool, which designs and builds document capture, fax and workflow solutions for law firms, healthcare providers, and financial institutions. We discussed how law firms are adapting to an increasingly digital environment, the factors prompting them to shift, what the future holds for law firms interested in conquering the records room, and Omtool’s participation in the ILTA Roadshow, among other topics.

I spoke with Robert Aicher, the President and CEO of CloudLaw, the maker of Zeekbeek, a national online legal marketplace. I spoke with Bill Piwonka, the Chief Marketing Officer for Exterro, a provider of software specifically designed for legal and IT teams at Global 2000 and AmLaw 200 organizations. I spoke with Matt Gillis, the president of Neota Logic, a software platform for developing artificial intelligence applications, which is focused on the legal and compliance industries. We discussed how in-house lawyers and legal operations professionals can improve the efficiency of how they deliver support and advice to business partners, what successful law firms of the future will look like, when legal professionals are using information effectively, and his advice for lawyers entering the profession, among other topics.

I spoke with Sandra Serkes, the President & CEO of Valora Technologies, an information governance technology provider. We discussed the emergence of auto-classification, how it helps legal professionals, the document management systems with which it can be used, and the influence of matter-centric information governance on professional practice, among other topics.

I spoke with Joseph Venturella and John Trickey, the founder and chief technology officer, and the director of business development, respectively, for Defined Discovery, a discovery management software company and the maker of the Foresight Discovery Management platform. We discussed the genesis of Defined Discovery, the inspiration for the Foresight Discovery Management platform, how it addresses the current challenges associated with e-discovery management and collaboration, and how project management tools are evolving, among other topics.

I spoke with Peter Odgaard, the CEO of Coretech, a cloud platform consultancy based in Denmark. We discussed how Coretech serves the legal community, the ways in which acceptance of the cloud has changed, its advantages, and challenges, and where cloud usage is headed, among other topics.
