There's Israel... and then there's Israel. Many Christians are confused about something God makes very plain in the New Testament: His plans for the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The Great Divide. It's hard for us to understand - and hard for many people to accept - the extreme polarization that's coming. In this court, we hear the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth - about you. Everyone desperately wants to think of himself as a "good person," and many convince themselves that the delusion is real. What do you mean by, "Hell?" Hell is the place you don't want to go when you die. That definition will work fine for most conversations. It's the place of anguish and torment. But Hades (or the lower compartment of Hades) is not the same place as the Lake of Fire, and it's worth thinking about how and why those are different. The Final Judgment. In our system of justice, we officially don't know whether you're guilty or innocent, until after the trial and verdict. And sometimes we don't really know whether you're guilty or innocent, even after that! In God's system, those who are righteous by faith have already been judged in our Representative. Do fish know they're wet? We don't think about Babylon very often. We don't see it or feel it all around us. Like a fish in water, this just feels normal to us.
