Sinopse

Geeks Without God is a podcast by three atheist/comedian/geeks. We'll talk about geeky stuff, atheist issues and make jokes. Mostly jokes. We know where our bread is buttered.

Episódios

  • Episode 508 – The Batman

    29/03/2022

This week, we are taking a look at the newest DC film – “The Batman!” in a continuing trend, Batman seems to be the only hero DC can make a decent movie about and they make some really good and interesting choices in the latest reboot of the character. We talk over what we really liked and even a few little nitpicky things we didn’t like in our spoiler filled discussion of the movie.

  • Episode 507 – Ghostbusters

    22/03/2022

This week, we aren’t afraid of no ghosts (because they don’t exist)! We are going to talk about the Ghostbusters franchise, inspired by the the recently released “Ghostbusters Afterlife,” which we all did not really like. We use it as a springboard, though, to look at a movie that had a strong impact on all three of us, it’s crappy sequel, and the underrated 2016 reboot. Afterlife is, at least in our opinion, a pretty major disappointment. But bustin’ still makes us feel good.

  • Episode 506 – Book of Boba Fett

    15/03/2022

This week, we take a look at the newest Disney + Star Wars series – The Book of Boba Fett! Right now, there has been no official word on a second season so it could be a stand along saga about everyone’s favorite bounty hunter. We take a hard look at the show and talk about what we thought worked and where we found things a little bit frustrating. As with many episodes of this type – we are going to spoil the shit out of the show. Be warned!

  • Episode 505 – Are Geeks Cool?

    08/03/2022

We all remember when we Geeks were the outsiders. The weirdos. But now the MCU is crazy popular and it feels more and more like the cool people are geeks. Is that really true? Are geeks cool? Or does it just seem that way because we all remember when we weren’t and it feels so different now? We try to answer that question and then we read off the final five questions from a listener before we start reading answers to our newest set of five questions (which you can find in the five questions page of our web site)!

  • Episode 504 – Our Own Private Churches

    01/03/2022

We got to thinking that religious people get to proselytize but we atheists never do. So we have formed our own churches. Churches where you can worship things that actually make a difference in your lives. Why worship non existent gods when you can worship road trips or snow removal or making your bed in the morning. Join us as we engage in our own sermons about things we think should be worshipped like non existent gods. And hey – we decided it was time! We have FIVE NEW QUESTIONS! We answer them for ourselves but now you can answer them too! Send an e-mail to [email protected] or [email protected] and we’ll read them on an upcoming podcast. Here’s the questions: 1) What is a game you have played recently that you really enjoyed? 2) What is a science fact or discover you think is really fucking cool? 3) Where you do you get your sense of right and wrong from, since it’s not religion? 4) If you could build a robot to perfectly perform one chore/task for the rest of your life, what

  • Episode 503 – Check out our Boners

    22/02/2022

It’s time for another Geeky Boners episode! For those new to the podcast, Geeky Boners episodes are all about something we are really excited about whenever we are recording the episode. This week we are talking about sign language, knife making, and libraries. We also answer five new questions from a listener as we’ve been doing for quite some time!

  • Episode 502 – The Witcher Season 2

    15/02/2022

This week, we are tossing a coin to the second season of The Witcher on Netflix. Gerald is back and he’s trying to keep Ciri safe from…spoiler stuff we can’t talk about. Also Yennefer is going through some stuff that is also very spoiler-y so we won’t mention that either. We do mention all of it on the podcast, though! So if you have watched the show and want to hear what we have to say, you are in luck. If you want us to spoil it for you, you are also in luck!

  • Episode 501 – The Righteous Gemstones

    09/02/2022

We just got done with our first 500 episodes so it is time to get started on our second 500! This week, we are talking about a new show that is great for atheists but also likely to appeal to anyone who things televangelists are awful. The Righteous Gemstones is an original HBO Max series created by Danny McBride and featuring some great actors including John Goodman. We talk about season one but season two is currently in the middle of dropping so if you have HBO Max, you should check it out!

  • Episode 500 – The Matrix Resurrections

    01/02/2022

HOLY SHIT 500 EPISODES! We started this podcast by talking about a new movie in an established franchise that had VERY mixed reception (Prometheus) and we figured what better way to celebrate 500 episodes than by doing the same once again, this time talking about the latest movie in the Matrix series: The Matrix Resurrections! Hey, did you know this episode was up for our lovely patrons almost two weeks ago? It’s just our way of thanking them for helping us keep the lights on (domain registration, hosting, recording equipment, and a new website that’s on the way)! Special thanks to our Patrons for keeping us going all this time. Thanks everybody, here’s to 500 more! -N, M, T

  • Episode 499 – Cheesy Cinema

    25/01/2022

Believe it or not, this is our 499th episode! We bring back frequent guest Melissa Kaercher, who was the guest on our first ever episode, to discuss one of her true loves – cheesy cinema! She loves those weird, grindhouse movies that fall somewhere in between the definition of terrible and great because they are, sometimes, really a little bit of both. Melissa had a lot of technical difficulties on this one because we are recording remotely. She dropped out a couple times but we carried on and eventually she came back. It’s sort of a metaphor for our first almost 500 episodes!

  • Episode 498 – Hawkeye

    18/01/2022

This week we return to Marvel on Disney + to discuss “Hawkeye!” Mark Sherman, our resident Marvel expert, joins us to take a look at the new series featuring Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and Hailee Steinfeld as not quite Hawkeye yet but you can tell that’s the direction it’s headed (especially if you’ve read the comics). We are definitely going to spoil the shit out of the series, including some key reveals from later in the season so if you don’t want to know anything, save this episode for later!

  • Episode 497 – Getting High with Ronn Bauman

    11/01/2022

This week, we are joined by frequent guest Ronn Bauman. Ronn wanted to join us to talk about drugs of choice and we get into some stories about past drug use but also about the drug that works for all four of us (yes – even Tim). The episode covers a lot of topics from drugs to Dave Chapelle so try to keep up!

  • Episode 496 – No Way Home

    04/01/2022

This week, we take another trip into the MCU for Spider-Man: No Way Home! The third installment in the Spider-Man franchise (the current one) may be the best of the lot (although Tim still liked Homecoming an awful lot). There is a lot about this movie we can spoil, though, so we’d strongly suggest you watch the movie first before you listen to our take on it.

  • Episode 495 – New Year 2022

    28/12/2021

Happy almost New Year! This week we take a look ahead at the movies and TV shows that we are excited about in the coming year. We could have looked back at all the times we talked about the pandemic maybe being sort of over last year but we decided that wasn’t a fun way to spend an entire episode. We hope you are looking forward to some of the things we are excited about!

  • Episode 494 – So this is Xmas

    21/12/2021

It’s everyone’s favorite Christian Holiday week and we are going to talk about Xmas for an episode. Being an atheist around this time of year can be a bit challenging but we will talk about the things we like and the things we don’t like. Remember, you don’t have to go to Midnight Mass if you don’t want to. You don’t have to like the music. And you don’t have to say Christmas if you don’t want to. This episode is also going up on the solstice so we could have talked about that. But we didn’t.

  • Episode 493 – Omegacon Game Roundup 2021

    14/12/2021

This week’s episode was recorded at Omegacon 2021, our first convention since the pandemic started. Omegacon is a small con that requires masks and vaccination and so all three of us were there playing games. Tim played a lot of new games (included Pictures – which is pictured) and he even played a couple with Nick and Molly! We review all the new stuff (and a couple old titles) we played over the weekend and give you our suggestions.

  • Episode 492 – Not Drunk Tim

    07/12/2021

This week, friend of the show Eric Knight joins us because he thinks he can get Tim drunk. Rather, he convinced Tim to try a bunch of beers they call “fruited sours” because Tim likes sour things so maybe he’ll like sour things that also taste like beer. Why Tim agreed to do this is beyond him but it happened and we recorded his reactions that may not entirely surprise you if you’ve listened to enough episodes to know his opinions when it comes to alcoholic beverages. The episode was recorded at Omegacon 2021. Here are the beers sampled (not in order): 56 Brewing – Broadway Bramble – sour with blackberries, raspberries, and lemon Destihl Brewery – Key Lime Pie Gose – Gose Ale brewed with Key Lime, Vanilla, Lactose, Coriander, and Sea Salt Drekker Brewing Co. – Chonk Pineapple Whip Sundae Sour – with Pineapple, Marshmallows, Vanilla Ice Cream, Lactose Sugar Oliphant Brewing – Super Squishy – Blackberry, Raspberry, and Coconut Sour Ale Drekker something Drekker Plop PB&J Supreme – fruited seltzer with black cur

  • Episode 491 – Dalton Boners

    30/11/2021

Another boner episode is upon us! Nick has a boner that makes all sorts of sense to him and probably a bunch of our listeners but Tim and Molly sort of just listen. Tim has a couple small boners, kind of like a young Klingon. Molly is going to talk about the new DLC for Animal Crossing because everybody was expecting it and we are nothing if not predictable. Also, at some point Timothy Dalton is discussed! Spoiler!

  • Episode 490 – Eternals

    23/11/2021

Another new Marvel movie and another episode about the new Marvel movie! This week, those of you who think we are just MCU Sycophants will be happy to learn there are some Marvel movies we totally don’t love. Do people actually think that? Nobody says it to our face but they probably think it and you all can shut up because we STILL like Captain Marvel. Anyway, Eternals is a movie that we think may have missed the mark, although Tim thinks it has some interesting subtext from an atheist point of view. Join us to hear why!

  • Episode 489 – Harley Quinn

    16/11/2021

This week we are re-joined by Christopher Jones, who happens to be working as a storyboard artist on Harley Quinn, season 3! Since that show is in production, he can’t say anything about it but that’s fine. We really wanted to talk about Season 1 & 2 anyway, which are currently available on HBO Max for your viewing pleasure. This show helps make the case for the fact that Harley Quinn is the best property DC has at the moment.
