Inner Work 101: Ancestral Healing with Lauren McGill (Woman of Rivers)
02/03/2021 Duração: 01h02minI recently had the pleasure of interviewing the deeply soulful, compassionate, and knowledgeable Lauren McGill (Woman of Rivers). Lauren is a spiritualist, diviner, and root worker living in New Orleans. In her work as Woman of Rivers, she utilizes the Tarot for insight, growth, and healing as she helps her clients release old patterns and powerfully connect with their ancestors. To extend the scope of her work, Lauren is currently studying Art Therapy, a practice she intends to integrate with ancestral healing modalities of breathwork and herbal medicine making. In this interview, we talk about ancestral healing: what it is, why it's important, and where you can start. We also chat about Lauren's healing journey and how water (and fluidity!) has been an essential element in both her business and private life. To connect with Lauren, you can tune in to weekly collective Tarot readings via https://instagram.com/womanofrivers or visit her website for sessions, her spells deck, and conjure work at www.womanofr

TRIGGERED! When you feel excluded, rejected, or like an outcast
27/02/2021 Duração: 17minThis episode of TRIGGERED! explores the issue of feeling excluded, rejected, or like an "alien" or outcast. (Have you been there? Me too!) I respond to a listener's message about this and dive into the root of these painful feelings that can get activated whenever you feel left out or overlooked. Join me as we explore why we get triggered when we feel unseen or excluded and what we can do to soothe or relate differently to this trigger. We'll also go back in time to locate your "primary rejection" -- that first conscious memory of being rejected, excluded, unseen, or mocked simply for being who you are. Healing that core wound of rejection and compassionately holding the part of you that's still suffering because of it is the key to releasing this trigger. I'd love to hear your feedback on this episode! Please email me any time at [email protected] . I would also love to hear about your own triggers so we can work through them together. Thank you for being here! I see you, I acknowledge you, and you're

TRIGGERED! When you feel unsafe or uncomfortable in your body
13/02/2021 Duração: 15minBeing in a human, physical body can be very triggering at times. It can feel dense, unsafe, or uncomfortable to be in a body. This sometimes leads us to try to escape the body through coping mechanisms like overeating, undereating, drinking too much, checking out from reality, or spiritual bypassing. It can also feel unsafe to be in your body if you've experienced trauma of any kind in this lifetime. In this episode, I address a few different forms of trauma you might have experienced that could still be affecting your ability to feel grounded and embodied. I also offer two practices to begin healing your relationship to your body. *DISCLAIMER: nothing in this episode should be considered a substitute for medical, psychological, or psychiatric advice or treatment.* If you need specialized help working through body-based trauma, you can find a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner here: https://directory.traumahealing.org To connect with me directly, you can head over to www.josephinehardman.com And please feel f

Inner Work 099: Healing Your Relationship to Time
03/02/2021 Duração: 28minHaving a dysfunctional relationship to time can make it difficult to stay present and grounded in each moment. In this episode, I explore the modern syndrome called "hurry sickness", which tends to manifest in the following ways: - a feeling of always trying to beat the clock (and always keeping an eye on the clock) - a feeling of never having enough hours in the day - the compulsion to do more and more in less and less time - inability to relax at the end of the day or even when you're away from work - frustration, irritability, anxiety, and stress regarding time and deadlines - physical symptoms such as muscle aches, tension headaches, insomnia, and restlessness in the body After examining the different ways in which "hurry sickness" might be showing up in your life, we'll dive into practical and spiritual approaches to heal your relationship to time. Applying the suggestions in this episode will help you feel more expansive, less hurried, and anchored in the present moment. Thank you for listening and supp

TRIGGERED! When you compare yourself to others (and feel inadequate or not good enough)
30/01/2021 Duração: 17minA very common trigger that most of us experience is comparing ourselves to others and then feeling worse about ourselves. In this episode, I dive into this particular trigger and the different ways in which it might be showing up in your life. I share what has helped me become un-triggered and shift my experience with "compare & despair" into a doorway for expansion and for identifying my true desires. I also delve into the shadow side of comparing ourselves to others and offer suggestions for working with that shadow. I hope this will be helpful for you, wherever you are on the healing path! TRIGGERED! When you feel unheard or misunderstood
16/01/2021 Duração: 14minToday, we begin with a powerful quote from Victor Frankl: "Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom." These words remind us that we don't have to respond reactively to life. That we can notice and work with our triggers to diminish our knee-jerk reactions, which can often cause suffering for ourselves and/or others. In this episode, I answer a listener email about a specific triggering situation: when you feel unheard or misunderstood in the context of an intimate relationship (or friendship). I share what I have found useful in these situations. I also encourage you to examine past relationship dynamics - including your relationships with your parents - so you can take stock of the unhealed or core wounds you bring with you into your interactions with people now. TRIGGERED! When your brain won't let you meditate
26/12/2020 Duração: 17minYou finally find a quiet moment to meditate, you sit down, close your eyes, take a few deep breaths... and your brain is off to the races. The ego mind can often get in the way of your meditation practice by pulling you in many different directions. In this mini-episode, I explore the most common interference patterns used by the brain and ego mind when you try to meditate. I also share a few journaling or reflection prompts so you can explore the idea of surrendering, letting go of control, and creating more space between you and your ego mind. Additionally, I offer some alternative practices if sitting still in complete silence is too unbearable for you. Sometimes this can be a sign that you're tapping into "frozen" or unresolved trauma, so it's important to be mindful of what's happening in your body and take a more gradual approach to meditation. If this episode is helpful for you, please consider leaving a rating or review on Apple Podcasts - or, better yet, telling a friend about the podcast! Also, you

TRIGGERED! When you put yourself out there and someone criticizes you
05/12/2020 Duração: 12minBecoming less reactive is an important goal on your path of healing and spiritual awakening. To respond to situations from a place of wisdom, higher truth, and confidence – instead of responding out of fear, worry, anger, or any kind of knee-jerk reaction. This goal of becoming less reactive – and therefore becoming more centered and grounded in the present moment – is what inspired this new experimental series of mini-episodes, which I’m calling TRIGGERED! (with an exclamation point because when you get triggered, it can be pretty intense). Through these episodes, I also want to bring some levity and lightness to the process of spiritual development, which can sometimes really challenge you. In this first mini-episode, we’ll be working with what happens (and what to do) when you put yourself out there and someone criticizes you. This topic was inspired by one of my own triggers, so this episode includes a personal anecdote. I then shift to the bigger picture and some specific takeaways as you strive to put y

In this episode, I take you deeper into the Akashic Records to deliver some collective messages from the Record Keepers. These messages include guidance about what to focus on, what to prioritize right now, and potential areas for deeper healing in your life. Inner Work 093: The Practice of Shifting to a Higher Truth
04/11/2020 Duração: 30minAs spiritual beings in human bodies, we can sometimes get caught up in the illusion of 3D reality. Bills must be paid, kids must be driven to school (or educated at home during a pandemic!), cars must be repaired, and dinner must be cooked. We also have to interact with others and navigate a chaotic world. In this process, we can get lost in material reality and forget to stay connected to a Higher Perspective. In this episode, I talk about how you can disengage from the illusions of 3D reality and reach for the higher truth of any situation or experience. This requires you to reconnect to Divine Source over and over again. Finding the higher truth means becoming more aware of what your Soul would say about any situation or challenge you're facing. As you do this, you expand your perspective and shift to a more hopeful, joyful, supported, and empowered state. Inner Work 092: The Healing Path as a Labyrinth
14/10/2020 Duração: 27minIn the words of Joseph Campbell on the labyrinth as a mythological symbol: "We have not even to risk the adventure alone, for the heroes of all time have gone before us — the labyrinth is thoroughly known. We have only to follow the thread of the hero path, and where we had thought to find an abomination, we shall find a god; where we had thought to slay another, we shall slay ourselves; where we had thought to travel outward, we shall come to the center of our own existence. And where we had thought to be alone, we shall be with all the world." In this episode, I explore the labyrinth as a metaphor for the healing path, with its winding detours, distractions, obstacles, and victories along the way. I talk about some of the key places and figures you'll encounter inside the labyrinth including the Dead End, the False Teacher, the Spiritual Advisor, and the Sanctuary. Join me for this traversal through the labyrinth -- which we ultimately never walk alone. To connect with me, please visit www.josephinehardma

Inner Work 091: Dealing with Setbacks on Your Healing Path
29/09/2020 Duração: 24minExpecting the healing path to move in a linear fashion can set you up for frustration and disappointment. A more accurate metaphor for the healing path is a spiral or labyrinth, with lots of detours, roadblocks, and shadows that come up to be healed along the way. In this episode, I share specific tips for dealing with setbacks on your healing path -- starting with the importance of redefining the word "setback" itself. This discussion is also helpful if you're experiencing a healing crisis or feeling a sense of dejection, confusion, impatience, or frustration with where you are on your healing journey. In this episode, I delve into the "shadow side" of the spiritual community to explore the issue of gatekeeping and unethical practices.
