God's Word tells us that something very exceptional lies within each Christian. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, we have the promise we shall receive the Holy Spirit. But what or who is the Holy Spirit?

It is inevitable, or as the Borg say in Star Trek, 'resistance is futile!' For most humans on this planet, we believe in something more, something will happen after you die. So what does the Bible say about the afterlife?

I am going to go against the grain with this, but Pentecost is not the day the church was born. I know some churches celebrate Pentecost as being the churchs birthday, some go as far as to bring out birthday cakes and such. Pentecost is the day that Jesus gave the message to Mary to tell her fellow brothers and sisters that He is risen. Mary, whom Jesus called Miriam, the messenger, she puts feet to the news that we today proclaim Jesus is risen. Pentecost is the birth of the Church's mission. Pentecost encapsulates all that Jesus taught us... Reach, Heal, Challenge and Grow.

I would say that many of us are not the wait and pray kind of people. Especially in today's atmosphere where most things come to us at the snap of our fingers! Our demands, if not met, usually cause great consternation for us. Couple that with the fact that we don't like waiting for our demands, then we're all one step away from potential coronary problems! Who gets mad when the internet is slow at downloading! The bigger problem is we believe in a patient God and that makes things just a little tricky for us! Not only that, He usually answers in such subtle ways that in the frantically demanding and inpatient lives we live, we tend to miss them! Other times He answers in such a big way that, well...

Here is Jesus, the man, appearing to his friends and showing them the scars that his life, his suffering, and his death, inflicted on him. Isnt it amazing that, in whatever occurred at the time of the resurrection the scars were NOT obliterated They remained. They are still there. We have a permanently scarred God. And he comes, scarred, to be with us with whatever scars we bear, with whatever wounds we carry, and with whatever doubts we harbour. To the Mary Magadelenes, to the doubting Thomas, to the all of us and He calls us by our name!

Stop living behind closed doors. Its time for you to get out of the upper room and live the promises God has for you!

Whats going with life, whats happening here some things are just completely out of our control whos in control! Sometimes its us, but it cant be that bad, why the reaction!! Thats the scenario that these two guys, we are going to talk about this morning, are going through. They are on their way to a little town called Emmaus, about 6km from Jerusalem, about a 2 hour walk. They had just heard that morning that Jesus had resurrected, but it was a little too much whats going on here.
