We began our summer Table Talk series picking up where we left off last summer, in Revelation 5-6. The teaching team spent time reminding us of various ways this book has been interpreted by Bible believing Christians over the years and then argue for the eclectic idealist position which emphasizes symbolism and a recapitulating structure, especially in chapters 6-20. We have seen in Acts an initial surge of acceptance of the gospel among ethnic Jews in Acts 1-7. However, from Acts 13-28 we see the majority of ethnic Israel being hardened to the gospel while the Gentiles flood in. Jerry, Papa, and Jared dive into Titus 3 where Paul lays out the gospel with great simplicity and power.

If the OT promises concerning a new Israel and new temple are being fulfilled now in the church, there is no need to look for a for a future Millennial fulfillment of Israel amongst only ethnic Jewish believers (apart from Gentiles believers) or a future brick-and-mortar temple, since the new Israel and new temple is being fulfilled in the church in Christ. This message (from March, 2021) gives an overview of Acts 1-11 regarding the inclusion of the Gentiles as Gentiles in the renewed Israel (the Church) by faith in Christ alone. It touches on why the ceremonial cleanliness laws served a purpose for ethnic Israel in the Old Testament, but no longer bind Christians today, who are Abraham's true offspring in Christ. Jerry, Scott, Papa Fred, Jared discuss the powerful way that the grace of the gospel actually makes us zealous for good works.

Understanding when Jesus sits on David's throne (is it now, at the Father's right hand in heaven, or still awaiting the supposed earthly Millenial reign of Christ from Israel?) is a significant watershed for many regarding Dispensational and Covenantal theologies. [To remove a potential confusion from the title of this message, it is possible to hold the Amillennial view, which our teaching team favors. This view says that Jesus reigns on David's throne in heaven today, which is itself the heavenly Millennial reign of Revelation 20.] You can watch this message here.

Perhaps the most important section of Acts regarding the inclusion of the Gentiles in the restored Israel of God is Acts 10-15. In chapters 10-11, we have the first clear example of a Gentile conversion (Cornelius and his family) and then in chapter 15 we read about the Jerusalem Council.
