Ohio State's offensive coordinator struck again on Sunday when the Buckeyes received a commitment from Jeremiah McClellan, who is ranked as the No. 17 WR in the country in the 2024 class by 247Sports. Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith announced Wednesday that he will retire in June 2024, stepping down from a post he will have held in the Big Ten for two decades.Our Patrick Murphy and Steve Helwagen respond to the big news ...

The safety position was a bit of a liability for Ohio State last season, but that does not appear to be the case this year. In fact, the Buckeyes appear to be stacked at the position, which features starters Sonny Styles, Lathan Ransom and Ja'Had Carter. The group includes junior TreVeyon Henderson, fourth-year junior Miyan Williams, sophomore Dallan Hayden, third-year sophomore Evan Pryor and fourth-year junior Chip Trayanum.Yet, it feels like we’re not talking about Tony Alford’s room enough. Day one of Ohio State's preseason camp is in the books and there are already plenty of interesting developments. Is sophomore sensation Sonny Styles going to be the Buckeyes' starting slot safety? At 6-foot-4, 230 pounds? Might the "slot safety" be more of a rover back for OSU this season in Jim Knowles' scheme?At right tackle, it appears to be a three-man race between Zen Michalski, Tegra Tshabola and Josh Simmons. On Thursday, that was the order in which they took their reps -- Michalski with the first-team, Tshabola with the second-team and Simmons with the third-team. But it was just the first day and that order is of course subject to change. "You win some, you lose some" is never truer than when speaking about recruiting. Ohio State of course landed 5-star cornerback Aaron Scott on Monday, beating out Michigan for his services. However, on Tuesday, 5-star defensive end Dylan Stewart -- who was a heavy lean to OSU at one point -- selected South Carolina over the Buckeyes. Then hours later, 4-star linebacker Nigel Glover from the 2023 class -- who entered the portal after Pat Fitzgerald's dismissal at Northwestern -- announced he would be transferring to Ohio State.You can come up for air now, we think.Switching gears from recruiting, it's a big day on the OSU football beat as head coach Ryan Day, as well as quarterback Kyle McCord, Devin Brown and perhaps others, will meet with reporters at the WHAC.
