If Jesus came to give us fullness of life (Jn10:10) why is my life anything but that? IT'S A WAR...the thief comes to kill, steal & destroy! If the devil can't get you to go to hell he will bring as much hell into your life he can to make you miserable minimizing your impact.

It's a classic story and the ultimate upset! Stinky, puny, shepherd boy VS big, stinky, barbarian warrior giant. Our identity in God has everything to do with what we consider a risk for God.

It's not walking in the light that makes us a Christian (being saved by what we do) but because we are Christians (being saved by what Christ has done for us) we will walk in the light.

You must no longer walk as unbelievers do (v17). Putting off the old self (v22) means you stop looking to anything other than God for your deepest satisfaction. Put on the new self (v24) means to make God your ultimate object of worship because He is our most satisfying reality. Be renewed in the spirit of your minds (v23) means living for God's Glory motivated by God's love according to God's Word. Pay attention to your uncontrollable or inconsolable emotions and you'll discover hanging from the roots of them are your counterfeit gods (idols). Life change happens when you identify your idols & begin to look to Christ to meet the need that you are trying to have met through the idol.

One of the greatest things about Christianity is that it gives you the resources for radical life transformation. Everyone has something that they want to change about themselves unless of course they are deceiving themselves (1John1:8). In this passage we are able to see how this change comes about.

If your inner life is strong then your outer life can be overcome but if your inner life is weak you're headed for a wild ride. Your biggest problems aren't external but internal. If you have the internal strength of the Holy Spirit you can face anything!

"So, I ask you not to lose heart"-(v13). When someone you love is suffering or you are suffering your heart can get taken out of you (Gr. to be utterly spiritless, to be wearied out, exhausted; you get cold, bitter, numb, cynical about life, feel like giving up). It can happen in general or in a specific area of your life i.e. marriage, finances, health, job, relationship with Christ, etc.

It's what you were created for, it's what man lost but Christ restored, more than anything else God uses it to heal people, many think they have it but don't, nothing will give you greater joy & spiritual vitality like it, riches are best measured by it and our need for it with people and the God who made us is to the human spirit what food/air/water is to the human body. What is it?

A sure sign God's power is at work is when people outside the church who were enemies now inside the church are family. That's Paul's point in this text.

We have everything we need already in us, through Christ to live the kind of life we all dream about (v3). Why are so many Christians not living up to their privilege & potential? Because we lack Vision (Pro29:18)! This is a model prayer for vision.

You can live 40 days without food, just a few days without water, 4-6 min without O2, but not a single second without hope (Prov.13:12). Human beings are unavoidably hope based creatures. How you live in the present in inevitably shaped by what you believe about your future.
