Manga Mavericks @ Movies: Captain Marvel (Patreon Peek)
12/03/2020 Duração: 01h13minHello listeners! It’s time to fly higher, further, faster with another Pateron Peek of one of our Patreon Bonus Podcasts! The results of our latest survey showed that many of our listeners REALLY liked our Spider-Verse episode of @ Movies with Vix where we really dived deep into the history of the characters that appeared in the film. We recorded several other @ Movies podcasts like that that we released as Patreon-exclusive episodes, and I thought that now that some time has passed we could share them on our public feed as well. Today we’re commemorating a year since Captain Marvel’s theatrical release by sharing part of our review of the movie, previously released exclusively on our Patreon! Vix joins us to give a detailed rundown of the history of Carol Danvers, tracking her journey from her less than feminist origins to her current iconic status! Vix notoriously used to hate Captain Marvel, but has her opinion changed now that she’s read her entire canonical comics history? Does the film’s presentat

A mythical, action battle series that Lum has already covered on the show previously that Colton unfortunately had to miss out on, but will now be going through all of it with his other compatriot in podcasting, Doctor, from the SSAA Network! For both Colton and Doctor, its their first time really digging into Saint Seiya and its many melodramatic, but thrilling, adrenaline pumping battles, as they discuss many of the series' different facets, such as its use

Manga Mavericks EP. 110: Doujinshi for Everybody (On Takahashi)
09/02/2020 Duração: 03h51minOn this episode of Manga Mavericks, Colton and Lum are joined by quite possibly their biggest guest yet! As they have the chance to sit down and chat with longtime translator of manga and video games, as well as the CEO of Irodori Comics himself, On Takahashi! Originally this interview was supposed to be an opportunity to discuss titles from the company's newest line of all ages doujinshi known as Irodori Aqua, but unfortunately, On spent most of our time talking about other amazing things, such as his unlikely journey in becoming a professional translator, as well as a breakdown on how much most manga artists typically make off of their work, and for that, we humbly apologize (lol)!! But seriously, we can't thank On enough for taking the time to come on our show and we hope have him on again in the future! Until then, please support Irodori Comics and their work, as well just your favorite artists in general in whatever way you can! Enjoy! Next time, we'll going over the results of our annual Manga Maverick

Where Lum and Colton take a look back at the past year and talk about their favorite manga related moments from both the industry and what they’re reading! What were their favorite new releases? What were the coolest and/or emotionally gripping moments in manga this year? And what was the best new series to come out of 2019!? Tune in to the episode and find out! Be sure to fill out our annual podcast survey, not only to let us know how we can make the podcast better, but to also possibly be one of three people to win some free manga! Hurry and take it before it closes on Feb 1st! Editor's Note: This podcast contains praise for Act-Age. While this was recorded months before the writer's arrest for sexually assaulting two girls, we want to make it clear that we no longer support his work. We're fine with leaving our thoughts on the series unedited on this podcast as a time-capsule of our feelings, but please understand that the

Manga Mavericks EP. 108: Anime NYC 2019, Part 2: Con Report
22/01/2020 Duração: 04h30minWe’re starting off this decade of the podcast by discussing a bunch of stuff we did last year! That’s right, it’s time to extensively cover all our adventures at the third convention we attended in 2019, Anime NYC! You’ve heard us go over all the news out of the con a few episodes ago, but this time around we’ll be going into what we personally did there - all the panels and events we attended, and all the people we met! It was a big con for us in many ways, and we got to hang out with a bunch of our friends that you’ll be hearing on this podcast, including Sakaki from the Weekly Shogakukan Edition twitter and blog, Jecka from the same blog, and Marion from Good Friends Anime Club, the Haikyuu podcast View from the Top, and an upcoming Dorohedoro podcast I’m excited to listen to! As you might have guessed, having five people on to discuss what they did at an incredibly busy event takes a while, which is how we’ve ended up with the 4+ hour long podcast you’re about to listen to. Believe it or not, this is bu

Manga Mavericks EP. 107: Golden Kamuy
28/12/2019 Duração: 02h56minOn this episode of Manga Mavericks, Lum and Colton are joined by cosplayer extraordinaire Diana Soreil, as well as Kelly Quinn Chiu from the One Panel Later podcast, to discuss Satoru Noda's Golden Kamuy! Just in time for winter, Golden Kamuy is a tale about hunting for treasure while surviving the bitter freezing wilderness, as well as constant attacks from all kinds of weirdos, criminals or both. We discuss everything we love about Noda's master work, including how it manages to be thrilling, hilarious and educational all at the same time! Before that though, we also cover some news, as well as discuss our thoughts on first couple chapters of two of Shonen Jump's newest series: Zipman and Agravity Boys! Since this is our last podcast of the year, we want to thank everyone for listening and supporting us all throughout 2019! Look forward to some huge podcasts coming within the beginning of 2020, and hopefully a new decade of Manga Mavericks!!! PODCAST BREAKDOWN: 0:00:00 - New Patreon Bonus Podcast! 0:04:

Manga Mavericks EP. 106: Anime NYC 2019: News and Interviews
21/12/2019 Duração: 02h02minA couple of months ago we did some massive podcasts to cover everything we did at Anime Expo, and now we’ve got to do the same for Anime NYC! We’re starting off with our long overdue roundup of all the news that came out of the con, which includes tons of licenses and some big announcements. We would’ve just attached the news to our con report, but that ended up being a five hours long conversation all by itself! So, rather than make a five and a half hour podcast, we thought it’d be better to just split it up into two episodes... I didn’t just want to make this a news-only podcast, though, so we’re also throwing in some special bonuses. That’s right, we’re including excerpts from all three of the interviews we recorded at the con! We interviewed veteran Pokemon actresses Sarah Natochenny and Lisa Ortiz, and the father of Gundam himself - Yoshiyuki Tomino. I’ve been a huge fan of all three for a long time, so being able to interview them and discuss their careers and passions in person was an incredible exp

Even only after reading the first two volumes released by Viz Media, we have a lot to dig into as we discuss different interesting facets of the world of Beastars, as well as its many various kinds of social commentary that we may or may not be able to relate to different real world experiences. We also give our first impressions of the anime based on the trailers (this was recorded before the anime made its premiere on Japanese TV) and wonder how well Itagaki's may or may not work in the transition from comic to animation. Enjoy! The third and final volume of our JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood readthrough will be available exclusively on our Patreon this Sunday, Nov 30th! Manga Mavericks EP. 102: Saint Seiya
10/11/2019 Duração: 02h48minSaint Seiya is a shonen manga classic, a trailblazer that codified so many of the tropes and themes the genre embraces to this day. Its influence looms large in the history of manga, inspiring generations of artists and storytellers, but despite being popular in most of the rest of the world it’s been criminally overlooked in the U.S. After a botched attempt by DiC to make it big in America in the early aughts, Netflix has recently reintroduced Saint Seiya to a new generation of fans by making a shiny new CGI remake and adding the old show to their service with a brand new english dub! Thanks to these new projects and Seven Seas’ ongoing release of the Saintia Sho spinoff series, things are looking bright for the future of Saint Seiya in the States! To celebrate Saint Seiya’s second coming, we’re taking a look back at Masami Kurumada’s original manga, and we’ve brought both the editor and translator of Viz’s editions of the series - Shaenon Garrity and Dr. Mari Morimoto - on to join us! Shaenon and Mari are

Manga Mavericks @ Movies #39: I Want to Eat Your Pancreas
04/11/2019 Duração: 01h05minManga Mavericks @ Movies returns for the Fall movie season to cover all the new anime theatrical releases like One Piece: Stampede and the upcoming Konosuba movie! But before we can feast on the new, we’ve got to take care of some leftovers first. With I Want to Eat Your Pancreas finally out on blu-ray courtesy of Aniplex, now’s the perfect time to release our podcast we recorded on the film back in February after seeing its limited theatrical run. We actually recorded this episode a day after seeing Hunter x Hunter: The Last Mission, despite the eight month gap between releasing that and this. But man, what a whiplash in quality those two films were! It feels like mysterious forces have tried to both force us not to see the movie and then prevent us from releasing this podcast to the public, but just like with “The Ghibli Conspiracy,” we would not be deterred! We discuss the strengths and weaknesses of its aesthetics its themes of living life to its fullest, and how it differs from the live-action film! Do

27/10/2019 Duração: 02h49minIts time for Part 2 of our 100th episode! This next half of the episode was originally meant to be the *ending* segment after our previous piracy discussion, where we invited both Bomber D. Rufi (aka Sakaki) and Maxy Barnard (who couldn't make it so we found [redacted]) to come on to discuss the results of our short run survey asking fans about their favorite episodes of the podcast, instead it turned into a 2 hour retrospective where we talked about not only what we like and enjoy about Manga Mavericks, but what we've managed to accomplish so far and just how the show has affected us and really changed our lives! Its a true celebration and we hope you join us for it! Special thanks to everyone who has listened to the show up to this point, as well as everyone who has ever come on the show! You guys are the ones who have made this show possible and we can't for at least another 100 more!
