They don’t want to be interrupted by your marketing. Consumers are looking for information as they prepare to make a purchasing decision. They’re looking for general information about trends and features. The marketing minute is a shorter version of the popular More than a Few Words podcast. Strategic: With content marketing you don't just start writing blog posts and taking pictures willy nilly, you create a plan which outlines your goals and what you're going to do with the content and what kind of content you want to deliver. 21/10/2020 Duração: 12minMore than a Few Words, a weekly marketing podcast, hosted by Lorraine Ball features conversations with professionals from around the world. This week, our guest Colin Gray talks about the challenges business owners face when it comes to creating content. it's not hard usually, to convince people that content is a good idea, whether it's a podcast, whether it's a blog, a video channel. The hard part is getting them to stick to the routine, because it is the consistency that really builds your audience. People are always fine for the first month, maybe even two months, but then then novelty wears off . The trick is finding a way to create a regular process of creating content. Building the routine starts with a plan. Think of one topic, and then start breaking it down into smaller and smaller bites. Instead of trying to write one post that coves everything you know on a topic write five related posts addressing different aspects of the same topic. When it comes to the tools, simpler is better. In the wee hours of the morning you find yourself watching with interest the demonstration of the Jack LaLane power juicer. And as cheesy as the infomercial might be, the format works. People buy Snuggies and Shamwow. How do these companies keep you watching essentially the same message for 20 or 30 minutes? It boils down to four elements. And these elements will work in your marketing too. Reliance on repetition. The same value proposition is presented multiple times throughout the program. There was a time when the doorbell rang, you would jump up and fling the door open in the hopes of entertaining a neighbor, friend or unexpected guest. But things have changed. And we're a lot more cautious these days about who we invite into our homes. This can create real challenges for companies that are in a home service industry. Every time a consumer allows any their phone applications to access their location, like a map or a check in tool, their phone becomes available for geographic targeting. ##521 Shout a Little
27/09/2020 Duração: 01minThe marketing minute is a shorter version of the popular More than a Few Words podcast. Instead of a conversation with a marketing professional, host Lorraine Ball shares a quick tip to start you on your day as a business owner. When you were little your parents probably told you to use an inside voice. They may have said that it wasn't polite to shout. While true in your parent's living room, there are times you have to raise your voice to get noticed. This is especially true on line as you are competing with so many other messages. To get the attention of visitors to your website, you have to shout a little bit. Unlike when you are face to face with someone, online, you shout visually, for example your call to action on any page of your website should be in all caps. While this is hard to read and long blocks of text and considered a little rude in an email, it's critical in your call to action. The all cap style stops the reader and makes them pay attention.

#519 Live Chat Tips
20/09/2020 Duração: 01minIn an age where most people would rather text than talk, we've seen a dramatic rise in live chat features on websites. And while sometimes I get nostalgic for the old days when you could actually talk to someone, I have to admit that the chat tools are kind of growing on me. And I'm not alone. In a recent survey chat was identified as the number one method preferred by customers to reach out and connect . 41% said the preferred to connect via text. That was followed by phone, email, and distant distance social media. If you're thinking about putting a live chat tool on your website, things to keep in mind, people are much more interested in a quality response than a rapid automated response. So if you're going to do this, make sure that you have someone available to actually answer and respond when people send a request. This marketing minute is part of More than a Few Words, a marketing conversation for business owners.

#518 Make a Great Second Impression
17/09/2020 Duração: 09minEach week host Lorraine Ball and her guest have a marketing conversation for business owners. This week the topic is how to make a great second impression. Our guest, Janice Porter explains that it starts with being a good listener, and learning about the other person. Then when you follow up, refer to something from the first conversation to show them you're interested. Whether you are connecting in person or online, the strategies are still the same. Being curious, asking questions and paying attention build rapport no matter where the connection occurs. One of Janice’s favorite follow up tools is Send Out Cards, an online greeting card and gifting service that sends real cards and gifts in the mail. In an era when everything is digital, this tool uses snail mail, to give the other person a physical tangible touch. And when they receive it, the personalized card gives you a chance to demonstrate you were paying attention as you reference something they mentioned in your conversation. Take advantage of Jan

#517 The Short Letter
13/09/2020 Duração: 01minMy uncle used to say that he was going to write me a short note but didn’t have time, so he wrote me a long letter instead. When you are limited in the number or words, you choose your words carefully and you use them sparingly. When you have the luxury of a long letter, you can ramble on and on, and hope that sooner or later, you’ll get to the point. And you hope the recipient will hang in long enough to figure out what you’re talking about. That strategy is something you should keep in mind when you’re working on your marketing. Treat everything you write as if it was a headline or a tweet. Put your energy into refining the message and making it as concise as possible. When you do that, you will pique someone’s interest and earn the right to invite them back Want to learn more about headlines? Look for resources in the Digital Toolbox.
