207 | Whitney Tingle and Danielle DuBoise of Sakara Life on Friendship, Business & Cooking from Scratch + more
24/01/2018 Duração: 01h29minI've loved Sakara Life from a far. I read their online magazine and loved their branding but it wasn't until I moved to NYC when I finally tried their delicious food. Turns out I like the founders, best friends and NYC transplants from Sedona Whitney and Danielle even more than I love their brand. In the episode we discuss access to healthy food, living a healthy life - the why, what Sakara means, starting a business from scratch, passion vs. mission, the joy factor, mind-body connection, finding balance in life, being busy vs. being efficient, what it's like to work with your best friend and so much more. 206 | Dr. Cybele Fishman on how to handle pimples, dermatology trends and all things skin!
17/01/2018 Duração: 01h16minWhen I mentioned I was having a skin expert on the podcast in the listener facebook group I received more questions than I ever have. Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks, talks, and wants to know more about skin. We feel with it, we see it, and it is the biggest organ we have so it makes sense. This episode is hyper focused on the topic of skin but we cover so many issues related to it. Including acne - why it’s not just for teenagers, blending natural remedies, how to handle a big pimple, winter skin, LED facials, micro pinning, rosacea, and skin trends. Dr. Fishman is so smart, experienced and knowledgable in her field in both traditional and natural remedies. This conversation was focused and specific yet we covered so much in a short time. Notes from the Show:- Dr. Cybele Fishman on The Web | Freshbook | Yelp- she has tons of helpful videos on how to deal with all kinds of skin issues- I've personally been using Differin with a moisturizer to help keep my skin clear- products that are good for pain

203 | Cheryl Miller Houser on Personal Growth, Taking Risks, Film Making, Entrepreneurship + more
27/12/2017 Duração: 01h52minI've met so many fascinating women since moving to New York including today's guest Cheryl Miller Houser. Soon after I arrived we were seated next to each other at a dinner party hosted by pervious podcast guest Phoebe LaPine and bonded over the city I'd just moved from: Detroit. While Cheryl is basically a life-long New Yorker, she had just come off a project were she made a feature film in Detroit. Cheryl's film Generation Start-up (available on Netflix) follows six young fellows starting business in Detroit. I not only loved her film but I loved Cheryl and was fascinated to learn more about her, her career path and any wisdom I got learn from her. In our conversion discussed mentoring relationships, entrepreneurship and millennials, why we should do things outside our comfort zone, personal growth and challenging ourselves, the importance of startups/entrepreneurs for economic growth, an inside look at indie film making, parenting as children become adults, working in film production, advice for cold cal

202 | Ashley Glynn on Soul Tattoos, Being Embodied, Connection, Slowing Down, Plant Medicine + more
20/12/2017 Duração: 01h55minToday's guest might be the brightest and most magnetic person in the world. I connected with Ash after I read an article my friend Deenie wrote for Refinery 29 about her experience getting an intuitive tattoo in Brooklyn. I was intrigued and enamored with the concept of an intuitive Soul Tattoo and wanted to know more. The intuitive tattoo artist was Ashley Glynn, an illustrator, photographer, tarot reader, and spiritual healer living in Brooklyn at the time. After connecting with Ash over email and running into her at the space she worked out of in Brooklyn, Minka she agreed to do the podcast. It took us forever to schedule but eventually one perfect night this fall we drank tea and talked for hours. Ash has such a joyful, angelic, calming aura about her. As soon as I walked into the apartment she was staying at my heart rate lowered. I loved every second of our heart warming conversation that covered her entire life-story including being raised by her southern tarot loving grandmother, touring with Stevie

201 | Anula Maiberg of Sixth Street Pilates on the potato method, impostor syndrome, rethinking 'body diversity' and more!
13/12/2017 Duração: 02h07minA few years ago I realized my body is something called hypermobile meaning my joints easily move beyond the normal range expected. While I loved teaching and practicing yoga, I wanted to try something for more strengthening. My best friend at the time was training to become a pilates instructor giving me the ideal opportunity to become her Guinea pig and explore pilates. Turns out I loved it. When I moved to NYC I hoped I'd find a studio I loved. Luckily, I stumbled upon Six Street Pilates and discovered the very cool owner Anula. From her style, to her instagram, to her philosophy and teaching I knew I wanted to have her on the podcast, attend her all her classes, and become her friend. We struggled to find a time to sit down to record this between her travel schedule and mine this fall so eventually we settled on recording this late one evening. We're both pretty sleepy and loopy by the end which makes the episode weird and special. We discuss community, being 'familiar strangers,' in-person connections, th

200 | Sahara Rose Ketabi on Ayurveda, Writing, Purpose and Dharma, Manifestation, Meeting Deepak Chopra + more
06/12/2017 Duração: 02h08minTwo-hundred episodes of this podcast seems like a huge milestone I'm pretty proud of. We've discussed so much on this podcast including sex and using vaginal jade eggs, our periods, birth control and it's impacts on the body. We've discussed relationships including everything from dating, to friendship to parenting, to motherhood to divorce. We've talked about wellness all over the spectrum including, aging, beauty, fitness, meditation, yoga as well as cooking. We've covered body image at length including intuitive eating and emotional eating. We've discussed mental wellness including the importance of community. We've also spoken about creativity with actors, actresses, writers, directors, musicians, and comedians. This episode covers a little bit of all of those topics. This week's conversation with guest Sahara Rose is a long one, yet I never wanted it to end (we even had to take a bathroom break in the middle). We take a deep dive intro her wellness speciality: Ayurveda (she literally wrote the Idiot

199 | Sam Eckstein and Jordan Feldman of Springbone on Simple Cooking, Working with a Best Friend, Conflict Between Taste and Wellness + more
29/11/2017 Duração: 01h37minI sure love a good wellnessy cafe where I can order everything from avocado toast to chia pudding to a Reishi mushroom tea but what I love even more is a good story. Today's guests Jordan and Sam are long best friends and co-founders of Springbone a cafe I discovered just a couple weeks after moving to NYC and soon became a regular at. Springbone specializes in simple, natural food that blends taste and health with ease in every recipe. While I came in for the coconut milk soft-served I stayed because the founders Jordan and Sam were the nicest. Being super new to the city, the two native New Yorkers flooded me with suggestions of places I'd like all over the city. We shared an interest in simple cooking that didn't sacrifice taste for health and I was curious on how they went from working in finance and real estate to starting their dream business . All my questions and more were answered on this week's episode. We had a tangental conversation as usual where we covered working with your best friend and tip

198 | Rachel Mansfield on Slowing Down, Unexpected Entrepreneurship, Finding Happiness with Your Body & Food+ more
22/11/2017 Duração: 02h01minI've been following Rachel's Instagram and drooling over her recipes and food styling for years, so when she was suggested as a guest by multiple listeners I knew I wanted to have podcast a conversation with her. One of the stranger things about hosting this podcast is that I get to invite myself into the homes and offices of people I've never met before. Rachel was chill, welcoming, and even sent me home with a delicious treat--a recipe she'd created that day. Not only is she a natural in the kitchen, she is kind, open to share, smart, and funny which you'll hear throughout our two hour tangential conversation which coved everything from changes in social media to relationships to cooking. We spoke about how she being unexpectedly fired from her job which ended up leading to her successfully make a career out of her passion for healthy recipe development and love of desserts. We talk about slowing down, the importance of presence, her start in blogging, how she made it her career, changes in Instagram, di

197 | my Favorites / Gratitudes + Karen Behnke founder of Juice Beauty + I 'let it out'
15/11/2017 Duração: 01h29minThis episode starts and ends with me catching up [gushing] with you about how I've been feeling lately and sharing some things I've been too nervous to share on the podcast before. I talk about saying yes to too much, buckets of life, my general feeling of overwhelm as well as sharing what I've been loving and grateful for in the last month. This week I interviewed the smart, genuine, and fascinating entrepreneur Karen Behnke founder of my favorite make-up brand Juice Beauty. I'm obsessed with their products so I'm real happy I loved Karen their founder just as much. She honestly was one of the nicest, most down-to-earth people I've ever interviewed for this podcast. In this episode we talk about how we're both from Michigan, wellness in the 80’s, being vegetarian, being an entrepreneur, why green apples are great for your skin and how much we both love eating them with cinnamon on them, using food for beauty, finding your passions and turning that into a profession, motherhood, body-image, the sexism she's

196 | Lauren Handel Zander founder of the Handel Group on Lies, Time Management, Self Reflection + more!
08/11/2017 Duração: 01h10minI was introduced to the Handel Group over 3 years ago by Mastin Kipp who coached in their life coaching method. Ever since I've followed closely them work and even interviewed their former president Laurie Gerber in 2013 the year this podcast began. Since then became aware of their founder and today's guest Lauren Handel Zander as the tough, 'says it like it is', 'no non-sense' life-coach to successful people such as Dr. Mark Hyman and Elena Brower. She recently launched her first book Maybe It's You and when her publicist reached out for her to come on the podcast, I said absolutely and immediately set a date. We met a few weeks ago in person to record this between her packed day of client sessions and meetings. While Lauren is indeed tough which you'll hear in this episode, she is also deeply caring, empathetic, and full of wisdom. As she says, she deeply loves human beings and believes everyone is capable of living their dream if they simply release some blocks and negative patterns preventing them from c

195 | Aki Hirata Baker of Minka Brooklyn on Holistic Living, Flower Essences, Reiki, Dealing with Depression and more
01/11/2017 Duração: 01h56minI stumbled across Minka Brooklyn soon after moving to New York. It was one of those very Brooklyn places I was very thrilled existed and couldn't wait to check out now that I lived in the city. Aki, the founder was kind, nurturing, and sweet right off the bat. She gave me a tour of the space and a full treatment of Reiki and flower essences, both of witch I had never experienced. I knew immediately I wanted to now more about Aki, her story and the genesis of her holistic healing wonderland, Minka. We recorded this conversation a few weeks ago on a Sunday afternoon in her cozy office. We talked for hours on everything from holistic healing to her fascinating story of immigrating from Japan at 18, moving to New York, dealing with depression, motherhood, and entrepreneurship. We get into so many topics including dabbling in lots of different things, healing tools for depression, wellness, connecting to your true purpose, tarot readings, activism, self-care, masculine/feminine energies, flower essences, reiki,

194 | Jamie Mendell on Big Decisions, Intuitive Living (& eating), Uncertainty, Body Image, Self Awareness + more!
25/10/2017 Duração: 01h46minI met Jamie last year through my best friend Simi who raved about her. We met when I was in town for my book launch and stayed in touch over the internet. When I moved to NYC I new Jamie was one of the people I was dying to get to know more and eventually record a podcast conversation with. While we'd only hung out a handful of times, speaking to her felt like speaking to an old friend. The conversation flowed with ease and meandered into a million directions from intuitive eating to making big decisions, uncertainty that comes with them, self-care, body image, eating disorders, comparison, self awareness, and career transitions. I caught up with Jamie in a really pivotal moment in her life, she's in a new romantic relationship and about to move away from the east coast for the first time. I can't get enough of Jamie, we had dinner last week and her chill energy, sound advice, and earnestness is magnetic. We recorded this in her Manhattan apartment a couple weeks ago, hope you love listening as much as I lo

193 | Christine Nguyen aka Chrissstttiiine on Social Media, YouTube, Freelancing, Style, Breakups, Body Image vs. Brain Power, and more!
18/10/2017 Duração: 01h46minThe weird thing about the internet is that you can discover people and without meeting them in person know quite a lot their tastes, interests, and life. If you follow them long enough you start to feel like you eventually even feel like you're friends. Of course you're not fully friends because they know nothing about you. Today's conversation is one of the rare (yet becoming more frequent for me) occasions where an internet friend becomes a real friend live on the podcast (over Skype in this case). I've been getting to know Christine for years through being entertained by her Vlogs, discovering new music & brands through her favorites videos, style tips from her daily uniform series, and feeling inspired from her apartment tours & intimate interviews on YouTube. I'm so glad this conversation lived up to my expectation of what Christine would be like live. She was ever bit as thoughtful, earnest, and wise as she comes off in the hundreds of YouTube videos. While Christine went to film school and beg

192 | Tero Isokauppila of Four Sigmatic on Mushroom Hacks, Adaptogens, Family, Gratitude/Journaling + more!
11/10/2017 Duração: 02h06minFull show notes:: here The coolest thing about the internet is how it allows you to connect with people all over the world you otherwise may never known. While I only met Tero Isokauppila for the first time this summer when we recorded this conversation in person while he was here in New York, we've been friends on the internet since early 2013. Tero's from Finland and founded the popular superfood mushroom brand Four Sigmatic over five years ago. While I've loved Four Sigmatic's products ever since I was one of the first bloggers in America to try them, my knowledge on the fungi kingdom, foraging, and the benefits of utilizing mushrooms was limited until this conversation. Wellness wise, we got identifying adaptogens, how to use powerful herbs, ‘mushroom hacks’, and why not all water is created equal. He answered everything I was curious about in the fascinating fungi kingdom. Beyond mushrooms we had a meandering conversation where we discussed everything from entrepreneurship, inclusivity in the wellness i

191 | Dr. Emily Kiberd founder of Urban Wellness Clinic on Belly Breathing, Bio Hacks, Motherhood, Living Dreams + more.
04/10/2017 Duração: 01h41minMy favorite part of being in New York are all the interesting, creative, talented people I serendipitously meet. Some of them, like today's guest Dr. Emily I know immediately after meeting them that I've made a life friend. Not only are we both from Michigan, Emily and I connected right off the bat over a million similar interests, mutual friends, and ideas for collaborations. Her expertise of the human body and her feminine approach to chiropractic are unmatched. She's a chiropractor and founder of Midtown Manhattan's Urban Wellness Clinic, where sure curates a team of expert healers from a personal trainer (shout out Trainer Matt who is the best!), to an acupuncturist, to a masseuse. It was her dream to built this clinic in New York and we get into the goal setting and visioning of how she made that dream reality. We discuss ways fitness can be harmful to the body, reprogramming bad body patterns, the body working holistically, the importance of breathing and belly breathing, “tech neck”, bio hacks for eve

190 | Nicole Centeno founder of Splendid Spoon on Presence, Mindful Eating, Being a Single Mom CEO, Feelings + more!
27/09/2017 Duração: 01h57minfull show notes here! Today's guest Nicole is so impressive to me. Not only is she a single mom of two, author, and founder and CEO of a start up, Splendid Spoon she is beautiful, present, articulate, and so engaging whenever I speak with her. We met a few months ago when we were speaking at Wanderlust and her peaceful energy made me immediately want to know more about her and be her friend. She has this calm energy even though she's doing so much somehow making it seem easy. We connected in so many ways, from our philosophy with food and body image, to our love for journaling, to practicing mindfulness and so much more. I loved the way this conversation meandered in so many directions as usual. We covered being a single mom, navigating a divorce, entrepreneurship, single tasking, feeling our feelings, living from your heart vs. head, food as medicine, career transitions, mindful eating, motherhood (and how 'you birth your own healer'), New York City, style tips (I love her style) and way more. I loved this e

189 | Madi Murphy and Bret Caretsky of The End Brooklyn on unicorn lattes & other high vibe foods, social media, pleasure vs. pressure and more!
20/09/2017 Duração: 02h09minfull shownotes + photos of the event here. I wish every episode of the podcast could be recorded live in front of an audience in a cozy coffee shop while sipping high-vibe magical tonics. We recorded this a few weeks ago live at The End, a coffee shop in Brooklyn that is home to the unicorn latte and many other magical plant alchemy drinks. It's such a special place to me which I explain in detail in the episode but I discovered the adorable coffee shop months before moving to NY and then serendipitously met the owners and this week's guests Bret & Madi only a few days after moving. They are two of the most lovely people I've ever met and their businesses reflect the positive energy each of them radiate. The night we recorded was bursting with so much love, joy, and magic, I went home that night on a high and have been eager to release this episode ever since. We not only get into how Bret & Madi came together to start The End and their first business the Montauk Juice Factory, but as usual the conve

188 | Latham Thomas on Non-Attachment, Finding community, What Feminism needs, the Value of Beauty, Glowing + More!
13/09/2017 Duração: 01h53minI've loved Latham for years. She was one of my first ever guests and her saying yes to doing my podcast back in 2013 when I was getting started gave me the confidence to keep going. You'll quickly hear why I adore her. She is present, genuine, smart, articulate, and kind; all of which comes through in this episode. I spent a lovely Saturday morning with her in her beautiful apartment in Manhattan and we talked for almost two hours about everything from her meeting with Oprah to living in NYC to the value of surrounding yourself with beauty. We talked about cultivating a supportive community of women & the importance of supporting other women. One of my favorite parts of the interview was her definition of feminism which is my favorite I've heard so far. We discussed the need for inclusion and accessibility in the wellness industry, why balance is a myth, motherhood, and so much more, just listen. She's amazing and I adore this long, deep conversation. Let us know what you think. Notes from the Show:-Lat
